ST. STEPHEN’S JUBILEE
SOCIAL AND PUBLIC MEETING. The jubilee celebrations of St. Stephen's Presbyetrian Church were continued on Monday evening. Over 300 members and friends of the congregation sat down to a social tea in the churah hall, which was gaily bedecked with flags and greenery for the occasion. At 8 o’clock an adjournment was made to the church, and the Rev. W. Fairlie Evans, minister of the. congregation, presided over the large gathering there. He was accompanied on the platform by the Mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas), representative members of the Dunedin Presbytery, and several representatives of other denominations. The proceedings opened with the singing of the doxology, after which tile Rev;. J. Kilpatrick offered prayer. The Chairman welcomed the visitors on the platform and the old members and friends of tne congregation who had gathered for the jubilee celebrations. He expressed their great regret that their old friend and esteemed pastor, the Rev. I. K. M lntyre, was quite unable to be with them. lie also referred to a large number of apologies received. 'I he Mayor (Mr Douglas) extended to St. Stephen’s congratulations on having attained the jubilee of its activities, and addresses were given by Rev. E. Adams, Moderator of Presbytery ; the Rev. Tulloeh Yuille, of Knox Church, which was the parent church of St. Stephen’s; the Rev. R. E. Evans (North-East Valley) ; the Rev. J. Gibson Smith, a former minister of St. Stephens; Mr V. 11. Adams; and the Rev". A. it. Wallace, who spoke on behalf of sister denominations, conveying a message of congratulation and good wishes. There were several other brief speeches and votes of thanks.
