Tlie Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Co-operative Association is asking the public to take £75,000 worth, of bonds, upon which it will pay 8 per cent, interest. Altogether £150.000 worth of these bonds will be placed, if there is a market for them. The high rate of interest is attracting attention in financial circles, especially as it is to be paid free of income tax. Owing to the drop in prices the association needs the money to finance the majority of its numerous clients.

Unusual interest was taken in the wool sale on Saturday, doubtless due to tho fact, that the sales had 1 in other centres recently resulted in an improvement in prices compared with those of a few months ago. There

was a large attendance of buyers, and the available standing room in the building was taxed to the utmost by farmers and others interested. At the commencement of the sale buyers were active, and bidding was spirited; in fact, brokers present stated that it was the most spirited sale held in New Zealand for years, and the values in some cases were from 5 iner cent, to 76 per cent, better than those ruling at the Napier sales last Tuesday. The number of bales catalogued totalled 7218, but several lots were withdrawn before the sales co'inniienced 1 . Lambs’ wool was most in demand, and seven bales of Romney lamb wool, on behalf of Mr J. M. Nicol, of Te Aroha, topped the market, realising lo}cl per lb. Three bales of Puketutu lambs’ wool • brought iOd a lb, and a, similar quantity of j “R and! C” (Ardstrath) brought 9d a" lb. i A pout 70 per cent of the woo-l offered was cleared, the greater quantity being secured for the Continent and the balance bought for local mills and by speculators. The following comparative bales, showing prices at tlie February gales, and those on Saturday:
