BAKERS IN CONFERENCE
AUCKLAND, January 19. The conference of bakers and pastrycooks of New Zealand, which will be opened •n Auckland to-morrow, will be important from tho public point of view for several reasons. The conference itself is arranged by the New Zealand Master Bakers and Pastrycooks’ Association, of which the membership at the present time consists only of the various associations of the different centres, but the question of admitting personal members of the trade who are not in any association, arid also allied traders directly interested, will be discussed, but the most important discussions are tc centre on the question of daylight baking, the price of bread, the desirability of amending legislation on the price of bread, and the importation of eggs. January 39. The New Zealand Bakers’ Conference was opened to-day by i’ne Mayor (Mr J. H. Gunson), who commended the question of daylight baking to the conference. He pointed out that this was a matter involving the contentment of employees. Though the public might at first object to bread in a condition to wldch they were not used, yet it would probably bo much better for their health if the change were forced on them. The conference was not open to the press.
