TIMBER DISPUTES.
LAND REVERTS.TO THE CROWN. HOKITIKA, January 18. At Hokitika this morning tile Warden (Mr Orr Walker) dealt with suits by the Crown for the cancellation of the Great Western Timber Company’s areas i:i Okarito, South Westland. Caneollalion was decreed in all cases, with oosts. The effect of the decision is that 10,000 acres of valuable timber land held by the company now revert to the Crown, coming under the provision of the State Forests Regulations.
Despite mention in the public press a lot of people are not sure now where they stand with regard to the registration of weapons. Shot gun 3 are prohibited arid must be handed in. There are exceptions in \ the case of returned soldiers, who are re- 1 quired to obtain permits. All other firearms ! are to bo registered. A. permit is required ! to buy or sell ammunition. It appears an '
exception i 3 made in the case of the .22 calibre. i.V correspondent of the Gamaru Mail states that at Morven a hailstorm in that district on Monday did a certain amount of damage to a few crops of wheat and oats, and also to rape and turnips. Ons 40-acre paddock of turnips was completely stripped and will have to be re sown.
