WELLINGTON NOTES.

(From Oub Own Correspondent.) January 21. The perfect weather conditions prevailing at Trentham on Thursday were responsible for fast times being put up in several of the events. Record time was registered in both the Wellington Cup and Stakes. Statuette was credited with running six furlongs in 1.11, and in each of the five furlong events the winners were credited with running the distance under lmin. B. Jardin abandoned the idea of trying to beat his Australasian grass record at the Wellington Club’s meeting. It was just as well he did, as the weather to-day turned out wet. George Young wasted a stone to ride Eleus in the Wellington Cup, and when ho came to the scale and drew the correct weight was congratulated. The Southland horse was beaten by a better one on the day in Maioha, who has had a successful ruil since he won on the second day of the Woodville meeting. He went on to Auckland and won the Christmas Handicap and Summer Cup, and should have won the Grandstand Handicap, in w hich Red Ribbon made a dead heat. Luke Wilson, trainer of Maioha, also celebrated his birthday on Thursday. Pacific Slope has returned to his form of a few years back, when he was a useful winner on the flat for Mr H. de Latour, the Gisborne owner. Pacific Slope has recently won three races for the local owner, Mr W. Smart. After racing at Trentham on Thursday Pakeha and In the Pink were railed to Foxton, where Mr J. Corry has the other members of his team racing. D. Greenwood’s team, at present at Trentham, will probably go up the West Coast to race at the New Plymouth and Kgmont meetings.
