OTAGO v. AUCKLAND. A 12-aside telegraphic chess match, Otago v. Auckland, was commenced "on Saturday night. Board 6.—Waid v. Smith: Dutch Defence. The position is very even. Board 7.--J. J. Marlow v. the Bev. Wingfleld : Centre Counter. Black attacked strongly in the early part of the game, but White ie now attacking vigorously. The position is even. Board B.—Black v. Sim: Queen's Gambit declined. • At an early stage of the game White had developed a strong attack, but weakened his position by accepting an offered exchange. An interesting game slightly in favour of Otago. Board 9.—Henderson v. Adams: Buy Lopez. Position even.

Board 10.—Allen v. Barker: Buy Lopez. No apparent advantage with either side. Board 11. —Wurman v. Senior: French defenoe. The Otogo player made a weak move involving the loss of his Queen, whereupon he resigned. Board 12.—D. H. Hastings v. the Bev. Jeffreys : Buy Lopez. White has a strong attack, which, however, may be evaded by the Otago player.
