ADULTERATED MILK.
AN EXTRAORDINARY DEFENCE. DANNEVIRKE; August 20.
Three. Dannevirke milk vendors appeared before the magistrate_ charged with offering for sale milk containing a greater percentage of water than was allowed by law. For two of the prosecutions it was shown that water got into the milk through no fault of the vendors, and fines of £5-and costs were inflicted. In the case of F. Studer, the defendant pleaded that he had been forced into the farm he occupied against his will, and could not make it pay without indulging in watering. He was fined £25 for adulterating milk, and £5 for selling same.
