THE SCOW KAHU.

FEARS FOR HER SAFETY. WHAKATANE, April 6. Fears are entertained that the auxiliary scow Kahu wa s lost at sea during the storm o£ about 1C days ago. She left Opotiki on March 24, and a scow resembling her was seen by the steamer Tasman to leeward of the Alderman Islands two nights later, at the height of the storm, heading north and seawards, and showing no signs of distress. The heavy weather and approaching darkness would make it difficult for her to enter any port. She carries a crew of four, namely—J. Leafeburg (captain), G. Samson (owner and engineer), L. Taylor (deck hand), and a boy as cook. Three of the men arc married, and belong to Auckland. Captain Roff, commanding the Whakatane Harbour Board's scow Vesper, who formerly commanded the Kahu, says she was a fairly -rood sea boat.
