The monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society was held in the Orchestral Hall on the 2nd. The hall was crowded, and encores were demanded from every performer. Chieftain William Duncan took the chair in the unavoidable absence of the chief, and extended a Highland welcome to the visitors,, and particularly to the Invercargill and Balclutha Pipe Bands, who gave stirring renderings of Scottish airs during the evening. The programme was of a high order.
