THE ISLAND CRUISE
WELLINGTON, March 1. A wireless message from ilarotonga. says that Europeans on Friday motored the Parliamentary party over the beautiful road circling Ilarotonga. The party subsequently inspected the plantations, the process of copra-making, and a parade of returned soldiers. Sir James Allen presented Rarotonga with a German gun. Important results were gamed when the Arikis, after considering Sir James Allen's suggestion on Thursday, signed a document in the presence of members, inviting European representation on the Island Council on condition of the liquor prohibition and the law against cohabitation applying to the whites equally with the natives. There were many signs of goodwill at this gathering. f The party are leaving for Aitutaki on Saturday. Traders bitterly complained of the insulting treatment by the Government agent, who made a spirited reply, and accused the traders of smuggling spirits ashore. The proceedings became quite dramatic. S!ir/ James Allen said the Government would support the agent in his efforts to suppress smuggling, which Sir James is convinced is taking place. The party are all well.
