His popularity amongst all classes of the community was evidenced by the large attendance at the social. At an interval in the dancing the Mayor (Mr John Reid), on behalf of residents of the town and district, presented Mr Nind with a well-filled purse of sovereigns. In making the presentation the Mayor referred to the courteous and obliging way in which Mr Nind had carried out nis duties, and wished himself and Mrs 'Nind and family every success and happi--ness in their new home. He took a keen interest in all public affairs, and was specially prominent in patriotic movements during the war period. He will be missed by the soldiers, as he has been a true friend to the returned boys. Mrs Stewart will also be missed, as, like her husband, she took a keen interest in patriotic work, being president of the QueonKtown branch of the Red Cross Association and Young Helpers' League.—At the lost meeting of the Southland Education Board Miss Georgina Ta.it was appointed first assistant in th« Queenstown School, and Miss Annie Ranee temporary solo teacher of Cardrona School.
