HILLSIDE WORKERS DEMAND REDRESS.
The workmen "at the Hillside Railway Workshops held a mass meeting at noon on the 26th and passed the following resolution :—" That we, the workers at Hillside, having observed the laws of the land, and having stood loyally by the Government in power, demand immediate redress in the matter of the cost o'f living, preferably by reducing the cost of commodities, or otherwise from time to time increasing the rate of pay according to the purchasing power of the sovereign. The present inaction of the powers that be is bringing nearer the time, when notice must be -taken of the fact that direct action is more successful than trying to reason with persons who will not act on logically-proved facts. We pledge ourselves loyally to support our executive in any direct move they may see fit to take."
