A "MURDEROUS" SPEED.
MOTOR RECORD-BREAKING DISCOURAGED. A sequel to the motor-record breaking run from Picton to Blufi last week, when Mr W. S. Miller and another covered whole distance in 20 hours, was heard in the Police Court on-tho' 23rd ult. Wil< liam Stanley Miller appeared before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., to answer two charges of driving a motor car through the city at a speed dangerous to the safety of the public, and to both charges he pleaded not guilty.—Constable M'Whitty, Robert Alexander Bremner,, William Alexander Cumberbeach, Henry Holland, and Constable M'Enteo each gave evidence to tha effect that- the defendant's car. which was doing a motor reliability trial from Picton to the Bluff, was travelling at about 40 miles an hour when they saw it. The defendant denied that he was travelling at more than 25 miles an hour through the city. The Magistrate, in convicting the defendant on each information, said that speed tests of this kind must bo severely discountenanced by the court. If. this driver got away with his record the fact would be advertised, and then we would have another car going out to try to surpass this record. Even on his own showincr lie had travelled at a murderous rate. A fine of £lO on each, information was imposed, with costs £1 ss.
