First Day—Wednesday, February 25. The Lake County Jockey Club's meeting opened to-day under unfavourable weather conditions. Heavy rain fell up till noon and interfered with the attendance, which was only moderate. The small fields in the galloping events restricted speculation, and the amount handled by the totalisator was £1985, compared with £1993 on the first d«ty of the previous annual meeting. Following are the results: — MAIDEN RACE, of 40sovs. Six furlongs.—! Cape Brett, 9.0 (W. Robinson),J; 2 Bretton, 9.0, 2 ; . 5 Lady Rupee,- 9.0...3. Also started: 4 Kawatiri 9.0, and 3 First Pet 9.0. Bretton won by a neck, nut the stipendiary- steward (Mr Currie) called., a meeting of the Judicial Committee to consider a question of bumping in the straight.
