RIFLE SHOOTING.
The above club opened its season on Saturday, when there was a large attendance of members. The weather was very good, and there was a steady left breozo blowing. The ex-Volunteer Match was decided, the conditions being seven shots and a sigbter at 300 and 500 yards. The various clubs were represented by three men each. Some good scores were registered. Rifleman F. Smith (32), P.O. Silvius, Gunner Fletcher, and Privato Andrews (all 31). Victory rested with the Highlanders by 1 point from tho Navals, with tha City Guards close up. A very pleasant function also took place in Captain Dempster presenting to Rifleman D. Parsons a valuable piece of silver plate on tho occasion of his approaching marriage.
