INSANITARY SCHOOLS.
I PROTEST IN PALMERSTON NORTH. PALMERSTON NORTH, August 15. ' At a public indignation meeting to-night the following resolutions were passed:- " (1) That inasmuch as the insanitary and overcrowded condition of the schools in Palmerston North constitutes a menace to the health of the children and the welfare of the community, this meeting impeachea the educational authorities for incapacity and neglect, calls upon the Government to . take" steps to provide suitable buildings and forthwith put an end to such a scandaloua | state of affairs; (2) that failing a definite ' and completely satisfactory answer the Government by September 30 regarding the Campbell Street School, this meeting recommends the School Committee to close the school forthwith, and assures the committee of its whole-hearted support; (3) that i the Health Department be requested to i send an officer to the. Campbell Streefc • School with a view to condemning the building; (4) that this meeting demands that the Government increase the education vote to at least £3,000,000 in order to make possible J comprehensive reforms to bring New Zeai land inlo line with modern conditions."
