STRANDED AUSTRALIANS.
DEPUTATION TO MAYOR OF WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, January 8. The Mayor of Wellington informed a deputation of stranded Australians this morning that it was impossible to arrange passaged for them on a cargo steamer, not because of the regulations, but on account of necessary alterations to provide accommodation, which would involve too much delay. His Worship will communicate with the commonwealth Acting Prime Minister in order to see if the seamen are prepared to man a steamer and take_ the stranded ■people back. He is also urging Sir James Allen to place the Philomel at the disposal of the Australians for the trip..
