WAIRAKEI ESTATE.
IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT SCHEME. (From Oub Own Co-respondent.) AUCKLAND, January 10. A company with a capital of £IOO,OOO has been formed in Auckland for the purpose of purchasing the well-known Wairakei Estate. The property, which is situated on the Rotorua-Taupo-Napier road, 50 miles from. Rotorua, has been in the possession of Mr Graham and family for nearly 40 years. The estate contains what is claimed to be one of the most remarkable collections of thermal wonders in the world. In addition to the Geyser Valley Hotel, the property embraces over 4000 acres of land. It is proposed te 'devote -£50,000 to the development of the property in erecting up-to-date hotels capable of accommodating over 200 guests and in forming golf. links, tennis courts, bowling greens, providing modern bath houses, and generally making every provision for tourists, sportsmen, and health seekers. The company will take possession at the end of May next, when extensive improvement -works will be commenced. One quarter of the shares have already been allotted to. Australian shareholders, the balance being reserved for the dominion. The provisional directors are Mr J. R. Reed, K.C., Dr R. M. Beattio, and Mr J. Rolleston (licensee of the Grand Hotel)—all of Auckland.
