WAIWERA.

Juno 3. —Although wo aro in the winter months, wo aro getting, on tho whole, very mild weather. Wo have had some frost, but no't enough even to cheek the growth of grass in sheltered parts or cause the flowers in tho gardens to wither, as at present somo, gardens aro still a mass of beauiful flowers in full bloom, among tho rest being borders of primroses and violets, eto.

Tho Farm.—Stock gneerally aro doing well, and tho mild weather, with grass so plentiful, will be a most valuable help to the turnip crops that, on tho whole, aro not too plentiful. I notice Mr Main 13 about again with his chaffcuttor and turnout, having partly recovered from an accident that ho received somo time ago. Unfortunately, however, it is not quite certain if he has not resumed work too soon, as ho still suffers very much. Mr Main, being a most obliging fellow, and quite an expert with his turnout, much sympathy is felt for him. and a speedy recovery is hoped for. In theso times a good man in his place is invaluable to tho settlers, so much depending on him. General. —Ploughing is tho chief work on the farms just now, the land being in excellent order for the operation. .From what I cm gather I question very much if there will be as much crop sown as in former seasons, or turnips either, for various reasons, which, of courso, at tho present time are chiefly unavoidable. The prices of fat and good stock are high at our sales. I was rather amused the other day on hearing a discussion of the uses of lime and manures of various kinds, etc., also at the same time the discussion of the quantities of water added to milk. One person said the quantity could be ascertained by analysis, when another—a practical farmer to all appearances— declared he would defy anyone 'to find out, as he had known six bucketsful added to a comparatively small lot passed by the inspector who' tested it. Still another lot was condemned by 'the same authority that had no water added.
