WAIRUNA

June 3. —Since writng my last notes the weather has been very unsettled and the barometer very low, but the last fw days have been brighter, and the barometer is rising steadily. The winter so far has been mild, and the grass and turnip crops have been growing, and feed will be more plentiful than was expected a few months ago. Winter Show. —This district has been well represetned at Duncdiii Winter Show, and those of us who have been privileged to visit the show have been amply repaid, for the exhibits this year were of a high order. T think the show compares very favourably wtih previous years. Farewell Social.—Last Monday evening a social was held in the Wairuna School to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Luke. Mr Luke, who has been schoolmaster hero for some'years, was recently called up in the ballot, and goc3 into camp this month. During the evening presentations were made to Mr and" Mrs Luke from the different organisations with which they were associated. The presentations; were a cheque from the parents, silver teapot from the school children, wristlet watch from the Presbyterian Church, money belt from the Sunday school children, and a handbag

from tho Ladies' Patriotic Committee. Mr Luke was an active worker in the church, and lias been choirmaster for _ some timo, and, from what I hear, the choir at its last practice presented Mr and Mrs Luke with a small memento.
