WRECKAGE OBSERVED.

GISBORNE, February 1&. The Collector of Customs advises that the master of the steamer Mako sighted wregkage five miles north of Gable End foreland, two miles and a-half off "the land, on Sunday. The wreckage was about 30ft long, like the top side of a wooden vessel, and was dangerous to navigation. February 22. A quantity of wreckage is being washed • ashore along the east coast, which is j evidently another portion of that recently i reported as having been washed ashore, at j Te Araroa Bay. Customs representative* j have gone out to make an examination 01 the wreckage. Later. The question has arisen as to whether the wreckage drifting ashore at Wainui Beach is connected with that recently found near Te Araroa, It appears to bo a small portion of a vessel. Its length is from 20 feet to 30 feet, and it has barnacles on it. It is impossible to make a comparison until low tide. February £3. An official here expresses the opinion that the wreckage found on Waryranui Beach is not connected with that foundneor Te Araroa. The wreckage is about 50ft in length and 14ft in width, and is covered with marine giowth. There- are but few barnacles. There is cvidenco of the Umber (Oregon pine) being charred.
