ALLEGED MURDER.
TRAGEDY AT KARIOI. WANGANU-I, February 34. Inspector Hendry to-night received advice of a tragedy at Karioi (92 miles from VVunganuiJ at midnight on .'Saturday. It is alleged that John Robinson killed Peter Larsen by striking him on the head. TAiHAPE, February 25. At a bush contractors' oaonp at Karioi, in the early hours of Sunday morning, a man named Peter Larsen was killed by having his head battered in while asleep by a fellow-workman named /John Robinson It is alleged that drink had been taken into the camp, and that during Saturday night the time was whiled away with a game of cards. A quarrel arose over the game, but the men parted and went to their respective beds. Some time after Larsen went to sleep it is said that Robinson camo with some heavy weapon, allegedly a pickaxe handle, and struck the sleeping man a terrific blow killing him instantly, as there was no evidence of a scuffle. Robinson was arrested at Karioi and taken to Ohaknne, where he was remanded till _ to-morrow. An Inquest was opened, which was also adjourned till Thursday.
