HAMMER SPRINGS.

February 8. —A cricket match was played last Saturday between teams representing St. Helens station and Queen Mary Hospital. The Hospital team won by an innings and 61 rune, the chief scorers being Private .Hamilton (82), Cusack (22), Gale (17), and Besley (12). Bowling for the Hospital, Private Cusack took nine for 18 runs, and Hamilton nine wickets for 23 runs. Afternoon tea was provided by St. Helens. Sports.—A well-attended sports meeting was held by the inmates of Queen Mary Hospital on Wednesday afternoon. There was a good programme, and each event was well contested. The Hospital Ragtime Band turned out, and enlivened the proceedings. Afternoon tea was provided by the Hospital Amusement Committee. The following are the Winners of the various events:—Patients' Race (75 yards)—Trooper Chryston 1, Private Brown 2. Throwing Cricket Ball— Private Besley 1, Private Modrick 2. Social.—A most enjoyable social was held in the Queen Mary Hospital on Thursday evening. Songs were sung by Corporal Dob3on, Private M'Laughlin, Corporal Ra-mage, and Ex-Sergeant-major Ridgeway; a recitation by Private Dale; piano duet, Miss Renncll and Mrs Lawn; piano solo, Mrs Lawn. The dance music was played by Miss Summers and Private Tunnicliffe. A King Solomon's drill competition was won by Private H. B. Smith, and " "musical arms" by Miss Begg. During an interval the following prizes were presented: Bridge tournament, Privates Besley and Tunnicliffe; bottle-balancing, Private Chrystal ; golf towrnament (approaching), Private Tunnicliffe; clock-putting, Corporal Saunders ; billiards—Private Modrick 1, Corporal Ramage 2.
