MURDER AND SUICIDE.
TRAGEDY IN FIJI. A shocking murder, followed by suicide, was committed at Taviuni recently (says the Suva correspondent of the New 'Zealand Herald). An Indian, indentured to Mr M'Connell, killed an Indian nurse, em- y ployed by Mrs M'Connell. Mr M'Connell'a three children —the eldost being five years—and the nurse were in the nursery a short distance from the house, when the Indian entered through the window. He cut off the head of the woman with a plantation knife, then hacked the arms and body. The criea of the children attracted attention, but the murderer escaped. Search resulted in the Indian being found hanging from a tree.
