THE KAITANGATA MINERS' UNION.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sib— The report published of what hap pened at the meeting of the Miners 1 Union is apt to convey a wrong impression to the public and 10 cause more weight to bo attached to the finding of the meeting than it reallv merits. I ask you, therefore t.i publish another version of what occurred at the meeting.; There were over 30 members present.—<A communication from the federation requesting the union to support' the application for a rehearing of the appeal of Mr P. C. Webb, M.P., for exemption from military service, was read. A motion--" That we take no action- in this matter" —was lost. An' amendment —"That we support the application for a rehearing"—was carried by 16 to 2. The other members present refused to vote on tho question. There was nothing to warrant the statement, that supporters of conscription favoured the exemption. One member wHo spoke to the motion ultimately said he had no objection to a rehearing. It would bo more correct to say that nearly all who supported the amendment were opposed to conscription. When it is known that the union has 250 members the public will bo better able to judge how far 16 votes go towards an unanimous vote. —I am, etc., J. O. Allan. Kaitsmgata February 9.
