A STORMY MEETING.
NAPIER, February 6. A special meeting of the Napier Borough Council was held to-night to consider charges brought by the tramwaymen against the tramways manager, and it was decided to hold an inquiry into the whole matter. The meeting, which was a stormy one, was held partly in committee. On resuming in open council, the Mayor (Mr H. Hill) moved that Cr A. M'Carthy (deputy Mayor) be suspended. Cr M'Carthy called the Mayor a d old woman. He then apologised, but the Mayor refused to accept the apology. After Cr Mulvanah had moved that the police be sent "for, as Cr M'Carthy refused to vacate his seat, a policeman was sent for. Cr M'Carthy dared the constable to remove him, but the constable assisted the councillor from his chair. Cr M'Carthy took the constable's number, and threatened proceedings against him and the council. He then left the room, and the meeting terminated shortly ■ afterwards.
