Febr-uary 4. —We bad very rain last Monday evening, followed by fine, sunny days, enabling shearing to be dene at the stations. Messrs Christie and Sons are still busy shearing. The shearers' social in the Coronation Hall on Friday evening, Ist nist., was a most successful gathering. The hall was crowded. A solo was rendered by Mr Clark; musicians, Mr and Mrs Gifmour (Freshford). Piano and violin supplied the music. The amount over expenses is to be given to the Patriotic Fund. Accidents.—ln the Gore Hospital on the Ist inst. Mr James M'Kenne] (Waikaia) fell, and his rig-ht leg is reported to have been broken at the thigh. His left leg was broken by a coal cart passing over it nearly a year s,ince, and he was almost ready to return home when the accident happened io his other ]&g. His friends are very sony for him. —On Friday, also, Mr James Haggitt, assistant blacksmith, was hurt about the leg and foot, and had to be sent to the Gore Hospital, where he is doing well.
