LAKE COUNTY.

February 2.—With thG exception'of a most welcome shower on Wednesday night, the weather has been fine. Death.—The death took place at the Lake County Hospital on Sunday last of Mrs Margaret Creighton, an old resident of the district. Deceased was a native of Scotland, and came to this district about 30 years ago, and resided at Lower Shotover. She was 76 years of age. The funeral took place at Quee-nstown on Wednesday, the burial service being, conducted -by tho Rev. R C. Hunter.—Mrs King, reliot of Mr Alan King, passed away at her home, Speargrass Plat, on Thursday morning. Deceased had been in falling health for some time. With her husband (who died in September last) she came to the district about »0 years ago. A family of five daughters are left to mourn their loss. The interment took place at Arrowtown this afternoon, the Rev. C. A. Kennedy officiating, at the graveside.—By the. last Home mail news was received of the death of Mr James Yeulett, who was for many years a resident of Fiankton, near Queenstown. He was 90 years of age, »and a native of Yarmouth, England, and came to the Wakatipu in the sixties. In the early days he carried on business as a storekeeper. A few years ago, at the request of friends in the Old Country, he returned to England to spend the evening of his life in his native land. Medical Board.—A sitting of the Military Medical Board was held at Queenstown on Saturday evening last. Those men who were examined were classified as follow: —R. Kingsbury and L. 0. Robinson, Fit A; A. E. E. Bryant, Cl; J. P. Lynch, D. Soper, L. A. Chaston, R. E. Latimer, -A. P. M'Caughan, and J. H. Davis, C2. Accidents.—Mr J. T. M'Entyre, of Pleasant View; Farm, Arrowtown, had his shoulder dislocated on Tuesday last. He was driving a reaper and binder on a sideling when the machine overturned, and Mr M'Entyre was. thrown off. He was attended to by Dr Stewart, and is progressing favourably.— Five boys—Masters Ray and Jack Romans, Willie Stevenson, Alf. Jenkins, and J. M'Kane—had a miraculous escape from a serious accident in Arrowtown on Tuesday afternoon. They were driving down the Ballarat Hill in a springcart (loaded with seats) when the horse got way on, and on coming to the sharp turn nt the Ballarat Hotel the cart capsized. Although'the horse was going full gallop when the cart capsized, the boys all escaped, only one getting a few scratches and bruises. The horse was badly cut on the head and got a good shaking up, but the cart escaped serious injury. The lads Jenkins and M'Kane were visitors from Dunedin. General. —The proposal to sell the Arrow Hospital buildings has been put off in the meantime, and the doctor's residence has been leased to Mr James Shaw. —Mr Kingsley Butler ha<9 disposed of his farm at Arrowtown to Mr David Mackie.
