WAIKAIA.
January 28.—The weather during the last week has been most delightful—bright, sunny summer days. Early this morning showers of rain fell. Harvest.—Operations have commenced in this district. The crops have the appearance of being likely to give fair yields. Supreme Sacrifice. —Corporal George-Handy-side, who was reported wounded in the right eye, forearm, and left shoulder on December 28 in France, hns since' died. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Jnmes Handysida, 'Waikaia, and was born and educated in the district. Prior to enlistment In tho second battalion of the Rifle Brigade (Seventh Reinforcements) he was assistant at the cheese factory at Freshford. Ho was 23 years of nge. Much sympathy is felt by a large circle of old friends for the sorrowing parents, sisters, and brother.
