By John Gkigg, F.R.A.S. THE SUN. The Sun's path for this month will ba through Capricornus and Aquarius, in R.A. from 2.57 to 22.47, and in Deo. S. from 17.14 to 8. THE MOON. The Moon's phases will be as follows:—' d. h. m. Last quarter 4 7 22 p.m. New moon 11 9 35 p.m. First quarter 18 0 27 p.m. Full moon ... 26 9 3 a.m. Perigee ... 12 10 48 p.m.Apogee 28 '2 42 a.m.

The times are calculated for the meridian of Port Chalmers, and, reduced to New Zealand standard time, llhr 30rnia fast of Greenwich. For inland places on or about the same latitude lmin should be added for every 12 miles westward. If a compass is used for finding the merk dian, allowance must be made for its variation, which is given at 16.48 east of true north. THE PLANETS. Mercury -will be too near the Sun for ordinary observation. Venus (R.A. 21.38, Dec. S. 14.4 to 5.44) is in Capricornus. Mars (R.A. 11.54, Dec. N. 3.35) is in Leo. Jupiter (R.A. 4.2 to 3.58, D«c. N. 20) reaches meridian about 9 p.m. Saturn (R.A. 9.4, Dec. N. 17.35) on meridian after midnight. Uranus (R.A. 21.36, Dec. S. 15) reaches the meridian 3 a.m. PHENOMENA. The following Planets will appear near the Moon on the dates herewith ,attached :
