HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD. The following are extracts* from the leports of committees to be presented at the meeting on Thursday: The Benevolent Committee reports having dealt with 56 cases for relief at a weekly cost of £2B - 3s. Casual cases for relief, amounting to £165, were approved. During the month nine persons have been, admitted to, eight discharged from, and two deaths have occurred at the Otago Benevolent Institution. At present 182 inmates remain. Paysheets and accounts amounting to £1273 14s 7d have been passed for payment. ✓' v The Hospital Committee reports that Dr Ferguson and the medical superintendent have been authorised to fully report on the proposed district nursing scheme and salary to be paid and duties of the medical officer of the out-patient dispensary. During, the period from December 9 to January 14, 12 patients have been admitted to, seven discharged from, and 14 persons remain in the Fever Hospital. The .report of the Finance Committee states that the application from the . Kaitangata Hospital Committee for the erection of an isolation ward at North Balclutha has been referred to the inspectorgeneral for his advice thereon. The application from the Kaitangata Hospital Committee for the erection of another ward or alterations to the present one. in order to provide for maternity cases at Kaitangata, has been referred to the inspector-general for his advice thereon. _. The report submitted by the medical superintendent in reference to the admission of cases from the South Canterbury Board's district, the urgencies of which have been queried, has been approved, and instructions given to notify the South Canterbury, Waitaki. Vincent. Maniototo. Southland,' and "Wallace and Fiord Boards of the overcrowded state of Duncdih Hospital, that their patients will be accepted for treatment in Oanedin Hospital only under very exceptional circumstances, and requested to advise the medical practitioners of their districts to this effect. Paysheets and accounts have been passed for payment amounting to £5211 2e 6d.
