PERSONAL NOTES.

Lance-corporal M. E. Wildey, of the Seventh Reinforcements (reported missing), enlisted from Birchwood, and was educated at the Outram, School. His father, late of Smith end Wilcfoy, Dunedin, has resided in London for some years, and Lance-corporal Wildey, who is 22 years old, has been brought up by'his uncle. He was through the Somms fight, and spent his 10 daye' leave last Jvdy with his father and sister in London.

Second-lieutenant E. G. Bris'ted (killed in action in Fiance on December 3) >was the eldest son of Mr A. H. Bristed, editor of the Weekly Press, and) grandson of the late Mr E. G-. Griffith, after whom he was narmed. He volunteered for the Main Body, was rejected on account of his youth, and got away with the Fourth Reinforcements, being then just 20. He was two months on Gallipoli, and, was wounded at Suvla Bay, and since his recovery had served in France, being promoted to commissioned rank on the field.

•Sergeant R. W. Hawkes, who was awarded the Military Medal a few months ago, died of wounds on December 20, 1917. He was the third soon of James Hawkes, of Wallacetown, Southland, —-and enlisted with the Seventh Reinforcements, bergeant Hawkes was first wounded on September 27, 1916, but soon' recovered and returned to his unit. « Private George Gilder (killed) in action) 'was the youngest son of the late Mr John and Arualia Gilder, of Charlton, and brother of Mr A. B. Gilder, of Gore. He was educated at Woodlands, Edenclale, Charlton, and Gore Schools. He assisted his father on the farm for several years, and subsequently took up dredging at Waimumu.
