BOWLING.

NEW ZEALAND BOWLING ASSOCIATION. PATRIOTIC CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. The Dominion Bowling Association's tournament, promoted for patriotic purposes, was commenced on 10 of the Dimedin bowling greens on the 10th inst, and continued up to pretty well as long as daylight lasted in some instances. Play was confined to the Pairs competition. It has been the custom hitherto to institute a time limit in some cases, but in this tournament it was not deemed necessary to take that course, with rather unfortunate results in some cases. The continuous "burning" of ends and much quibbling over the he-ads was responsible for considerable loss of time, and so many of the games were prolonged out of all reason. A time limit of two and a-half hours was instituted on succeeding days. One incident -occured that marred the pleasure of the tournament so far as the Dunedin green was concerned, and it was the receipt of the sad intelligence of the death of the son of one of the players (Mr Drumrnond) at the front. Rain put play out of the question on Friday. We give below the results of the first round (so as to include the names of all engaged) and the green winners (showing the result of the playing off between the section winners), the green winners having to play off on the sudden death system to find.the winner: PAIRS COMPETITION. For association certificates, with names of winners engrossed thereon—one for each winner and one for the club. DUNEDIN GREEN. Section A. C. Barry and M. Orchard (Christchurch) 20 beat Adess and J. Mercer (Dunedin), Mr J Allen submitted a progpsaK to alter the constitution so far as to provide that all centres be represented by delegates at the annual meetings of council the fiamo to be elected 10 days before the date teed for the association tournament. J,ne smaller centres, Mr -Allen said, wero dis* satisfied' with the present plan of representation.—Professor Walker considered there was much to be said in favour of thechangai on the ground that small centres had no direct representation.—The President urged caution in the matter.—Mi- V*™ e s moved: "That consideration of Mr Aliens proposal be held over, and that centres fee invited to send delegates to tho 1919 toVirnament (to be held at Auckland), to confer with the council relative- to alterations to the constitution, and any other matters that may bo brought before them • —MrCasey "seconded the motion, winch was carried. ~ ~ ~ ' . The official bowl tester (Auckland) wrote inquiring -whether any steps had been taken to see that only stamped bowls were tised at the present tournament.—Colonel Ooilins said that at the New Y«ir s tournament in Wellington the umpire had discovered that 30 pairs of bowls were unstamped—The President saad there had been no testing of tho bowls at the tournament now in progress. Ho thought it was time some action was taken by" tho council in the matter, as sufficient warning had already been jriven.—Mr MarloW explained that the 190 S stamp of the N % B.A. was accepted because it was tho outcome of a green test. He moved: "That centres bo asked to notify each club that in any tournament, club competition, or club game, held under the association rules, bowk must bear the stamp of the association, and that umpires be instructed to see that all bowls comply with the law. Tho stamps to be recognised to bo tho 1909 N.Z.B.A. stamp, and the D.N-Z.8.A.; the rule to come into foroa on October 1 nest."—Colonel Collins seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr Casey moved, and it was carriedl" " That the maximum distance at whioh the mat cap bo laid from the ditch shall be 20ft."
