MEAT SUPPLIES

DRAWING ON IMPERIAL STOCKS.

NEW ARRANGEMENTS. WELLINGTON, 'December 31

Mr Massey stated to-day that the arrangements now completed for the of meat from the cold stores_ to retailers would overcome most of the difficulties that had been experienced in the past. The meat would be drawn from the Imperial stocks without storage charges during the slaughtering season, and with greatly reduced storage charges at other times. Retailers who wished to take advantage of the scheme would have to make their arrangements with the Director of the Live Stock Division (Mr Reakes), and submifi a scale of retail prices for the approval of the Board of Trade. Any butchers who felt that they were paying too much for 1 their meat at the present time could com© under the scheme. The prices to be paid for the meat t$ the cold store are as follow-.—First quality wether mutton, s£d: second quality, 54dj lamb, 6£d; ox beef, sdl; second quality beef, 4§d; legs of mutton, ,6§d $ other parte of mutton, s|d. These prices show a small advance on the prices paid f.o.b. by the Imperial Government.
