IRON SPIRIT OF OUR MEN

CARDINAL BOURNE DESCRIBES 'IHEIR "SUPERB HEROISM." At St. Mary of tho Angels, Bayswater, on November 4, Cardinal Bourne gave a heartening account of the spirit of the men ' at the front in a description of his recent j visit to the trenches. Cardinal Bourne said that he was much ■ impressed by tho improvement in organisation which had taken place since his lastvisit two years ago. Those with whom ho had spoken expressed their amazement at the changes. "No one could fail to bo impressed by the courage and endurance shown by the men who" are engaged in the trenmendous conflict —endurance both physical and moral," said the Cardinal. "Cheerfulness is shown by those who are stricken and overcome by terrible wounds, and those who know that death may bo their lot at any moment. Behind all this there is an absolute and unvarying confidence in tho ultimate result. " There is an unflinching determination to go on fighting till the ends for which we have entered the war have been fully achieved and tho forces that created tho war have been destroyed. " Words fail me to describe the superb heroism of the men who go undaunted through country sodden with water where they frequently sink up to the neck or beyond it. And at any moment they aro liable to be shattered by gun fire or bombs from above."
