ALEXANDRA NOTES.

ALEXANDRA, Very cold weather has boon experienced lately—in fact, Sunday and Monday were like winter days. On Monday there was a light covering of snow on the hills, and no surprise would have been expressed had there been snow on the low-lying ground also. The weather is still unsettled, and a good steady rain would be acceptable. Still another of our local boys has been killed in action in the person ofTPrivate Hcdley Jackson. For a number of years he drove the mail bus, and Dunedin travellers will remember him as energetic and attentive in his work. He was a pleasant young man, and much admired in this district. A party, under the title of " The Red Dandles," from Cromwell visited Alexandra on the 6th inst., and gave a successful entertainment. The proceeds were donated to the local Patriotic Association for winter comforts for our boys at the front. The Borough Council, staff at present is busy improving the streets of tho town.
