Accidents in lactones last year numbered 1171, as against 1065 in the previous rear. Of the number, 933 were slight, 144 moderate, 84 serious, and 5 fatal. The Labour Department accounts for the increase with the suggestion that it is probably due in some degree to the employment of a larger proportion of inexperienced workers. During the year there were 67 accidents reported under the Scaffolding Inspection Act. Eight which were fatal were due to falls from scaffolding, etc., and not to faulty construction of scar.
