ST. KILDA PARISH

INDUCTION CEREMONY. Sunday was a red-letter day in the history of the Church of England congregation at St. Kilda, as the. first vicar of the .newlyformed parochial district, the Rev. A. Wingfield, was inducted to the cure of souls there. The service of induction was performed by the Primate, who, accompanied by his chaplain (the Rev. V. G. Bryan King) was met at the church door by the churchwardens, vestry, and vicar-elect end conducted by them up to the ohaneel, where the ceremony took place. After the opening prayers had been read by the Primate, Mr Wingfield made the customary declarations of obedience, and received his license as vioar. Immediately this service was concluded a choral celebration of Holy Communion was celebrated by the now vicar, at which there were 98 communicants. In the afternoon the Primate dedicated the new Sunday school infant room, the building being used for the first time. In a short address his Lordship impressed upon the children their duties as young Christians, and hoped that when they grew too old to attend Sunday school they would if possible, become teachers, and, at any rate, would never leave off going to church and honouring the Sabbath Day. In the evening the Rev. A. Wingfield preached to another very large congregation, taking for his text the 36th verse of the 18th chapter of St. Luke's Gospel. All the services were excellently well attended, and the offertories collected wore large. The musical portion of the three services was rendered bv an augmented choir, under the direction of Mr Frank Kettle, and its efforts proved highly acceptable.
