EGYPT GENERAL MISSION

The annual meeting of the Egypt General Mission was hold at the Y.M.C.A. on Tuesday, 4th inst. In the afternoon an united women's meeting for prayer for the Moslem world was held. A number of ladies read essays on different aspects of work amongst Moslems, and an hour was spent in intercession. This meeting was well attended by representatives of many of the different denominations in the city. Some interesting extracts from letters received from Mr William Bradley, a member of the mission working amongst our soldiers in Alexandria, were read by the chairman. The mission has freed him for this special work, as well as his brother (A. W. Bradley), Australasian secretary of the mission.

The total receipts from Otago were stated to be £IOB 3s sd, out of which £lOl 13a has been forwarded to the mission field.

The following are extracts from the annual report of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Egypt General Mission: —The work of the year has gone on quietly, as usual. Materials have been bought and exit out, and any member who could find time for sewing took the garments home to make up in her leisure moments. Gifts of money have been received from time to time, and with this fund the materials are bought, and any other suitable things for gifts for workers on the field. Special mention must be made of a first effort x by Mrs Charles Yoeman's class of little girls in the Wesleyan Church, Cromwell. The children held a sale of work for missions, and from the proceeds of +his sale sent a donation of £1 10s for the Christmas box. Many interested friends in Dunedin, Oamaru, Milton, and other places sent us gifts of money or parcels of useful gifts for the missionaries. A Girls' Auxiliary has b> en formed in Invercargill with 10 members. We _ have much ioc which, to thank God in the generous gift of £I7OO to build a women's ward and operating theatre i>t Shebin Hospital. The building is now in course of construction. This anonymous donor has also offered to provide the promises and upkeep of a boys' boarding school. Cur workers are feeling conscious of the great need of buying up the opportunities with regard to education of Moslem children, the ruling powers in the land are awakening to fho need of well-equipped schools, and as these are built and staffed with teachers, it is not at all probable that the Modem children in Christian mission schools will be allowed to remain under Christian influence.

The annual report o'f the E.G.M. Prayer Circle states that it has been decided by tho council that Dunedin shall become the chief centre for the South Island, and for tho futu.ro all moneys sent in for the mission from all parts of the South Island shall be remitted by the Dunedin secretary direct to the home treasurer in London.
