BOXING.
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council was held in Christchurch, Mr J. R. Evans presiding. The fifteenth annual report stated that, in view of the position in regard to the war, all local championship tournaments had been abandoned, as were consequently the New Zealand and the Australasian championship meetings. One or two minor events woro carried out, mainly for youths, but that was the sum total of activity in public during the season. Amongst those who had recently given their lives for King and country were several well known throughout the dominion for their sterling performances in the ring, notably Norman Bennetts (New Zealand and Australasian feather-weight champion, 1913), S F. (Pat) Monagh'an (New Zealand middle-weight champion, 1904 and 1912), and Alfred Gault (New Zealand light-weight professional champoin, 1912). The balance sheet showed receipts £136 and expenditure £l7 13s 6d, leaving a credit balance of £llß 6s lOd. On tho motion of the chairman, the report and balance sheet were adopted. Officials were appointed" as follows: Patron, the Hon. A. L. Herdman; committee—Me&srs C. T. Aschman, C. J. Cooper, j. R. E,vans. J. F. Grierson, F. W. Johnston, A. Pv. Kirk, and J. R. Olliver; honorary secretary-treasurer, Mr W. G. Atack; hon. auditor, Mr H. E. Marsh. Mr J. R. Evans was elected chairman of the committee, and Messrs C. T. Aschman, A. R. Kirk, and the chairman were elected an executive. In view of existing conditions, < it was decided to suspend the rule relating" to the payment of fees by local associations. It was also decided that the N<*\v Zealand and the Australasian championship meetings for 1917 should be abandoned.
