A DISASTROUS FLOOD.
LOSS OF LIFE GIISBORNE, January 22. A heavy rainstorm at Tokomaru Bay caused floods. A carpenter named Lewis aged 21, went out at 5 o'clock to look at the flood. The bank gave way, and ho was drowned. A child named Uanlon. IS months old, was also drowned. Its father had handed tlic child to the mother whilst they were escaping from I lie house. The mother tripped° and fell, the child being washed a way. A number of small bridges were washed away and stock drowned. It' is reported that lOin of rain fell inland.
