By Jocic Scott.

To ba a perfect fisherman you require icor€ excellencies than ore usually to be found in each a .small space as is allotted to a man's carcase.— Paiikf.R (Jir.iiouK. Readers are invited to contribute i tenia of local fishing news (or insertion in this column. For insertion in the ensuing issue they should re-icli Dunedin by Monday night's mail.

BANK NOTES. Going the rounds of Duncdin the end of last week disclosed the fact that, nearly nil anglers had disappeared to some favourite or favourably-represented spot, where good baskets might bo procured; consequently fishing news is scarce. I hear in a casual way that a few fish are being occasionally got from the Leith, and thafe tho Tomahawk Lagoon is keeping up its reputation for yielding some well-condi-tioncd fish when tho weather conditions are suitable. 1 noticed on Monday, while travelling south, several men armed with rods getting off the train in tho vicinity of Henley 'and Waihola. and. as the daywas favourable, expect that they got some reward for their trouble. Most of the smaller rivers at hand seem to have become very low from aii accounts, and nothing short of great oxpertness with the rod caa have produced very much from them. The T have had an opportunity of having a chat with a Waitaki angler-* /< v.-liM spends most of his time on ths bank of tho river, and from what he tehf mo he has had a happy, but somewhat variable, experience of the Waitaki during the past three weeks. About the beginning, of that peiiod he got three wee fish weighing 91b, 71b, and 61b, tho heaviest being 1 the best fish lie has caught during the season. Tho next day he caught five fish, and after that averaged one fish a day for some time. It is a week since he left tho river, and three dayr, before his departure lie got. six or seven fish, and a day or two afterwards he secured nine. Nobody, so far as ho knows, has done any bettor than this; but bo mentions that on one occasion Messrs Glen and Hutchison put up a very aood record. These two anglers appear to have jjot on to the ri«jht spot. Tho Devon minnow is still tho most taking lure. Tho river was in fine order when he' left it about a week ngo. A female brown trout, 271 b in weight, 3ft Tin in length, and 24in in girth, was caught in t)ic upper reaches of tho Wangamji River, near Taumarunui, with a fly.
