KAITANGATA NOTES.

KAITANGATA, December 29. There was a large attendance at the courts of the Kaitangata Lawn Tennis Club on Wednesday, when presentations were made to Private J. T. Ramsay (late secretary), on leave, and Private Donaldson. The President (Air A. S. GiManders), in making tho presentations said that the games they were enjoying were permitted on account; of the boys going away 'to keep their privileges secure. He then presented Private Ramsay with a gold medal, and Airs Donaldson with a gold medal for her husband, as a mark of the esteem in which they were hold. Private Ramsay replied suitably, and_ Air James. Doraldson responded on behalf of his son and his wife. Afternoon tea was supplied, and the courts were occupied in pleasant games. The Wangaloa picnic was held at Smith's Beach on Christmas Day, in beautiful weather. There was an attendance of over 500. Hot,water, tea, sugar, and milk were provided by the residents. The function was a great success, and in the evening a dance was held in the schoolroom, which was well attended. Special praise is duo to Air G- Bissett (secretary) for assistance given. A presentation oi a wnsuet war.cn was made to Private Gordon Bissett during the picnic by the Rev. Mr M'Dowall, Presbyterian minister, on behalf of the coast residents. Private Bisset suitably replied. Mr Thomas Johnston also made a few remarks in reference to the active part taken by the recipient in matters pertaining to the district. Quite a number of young boys are at. present turnip-thinning in and around this district. The boys are receiving; Is an hour. Labour is hard to procure this year through so many leaving the district. The miners have 10 days' holiday. They resume on tho 3rd prox. Quito a large number from Kaitangata are enjoying a camping-out holiday at Port Molyneux.
