Concerts.—A concert was given in the Mossburn Public Hull on November 9 ioi the Red Gross funds by a strong party irom Invercargill. The expenses were rataer heavy and the Red Cross old not benefit to the extent anticipated. On the evening of December 21 Mr. VV. H. Clark, ot Lumsuen 2nd her pupils and friends journeyed to Mossburn and gave a very successful musical evening in aid of the Red Cross funds. After the singing of the National Antneni Mrs Clark and Master Crosbie gave a piano duo, and the second part was opened by a piano duo by Mrs Clark and Miss Senior. Songs were given by Mrs S. M’Cauiey, Mias Fisher (2), Mr W. H. Clark, and Master Clark; piano solos by Misses W ilkinson, Oiliver, Walker, and Gien, and Masters Crosbie and Allan; piano trios by Misses M’Leod, Walker,- and Master M'Leod, Misses Glen, Oiliver, and Walker, and Misses Senior, Wilkinson, and Walthers. “The Children’s Concert,” a dramatic sketch (with Miss Senior as godmother) was given by Misses M’Leod, Cunningham, Dorothy Crosbie, and Masters Jan M’Leod, Edgar Townson, and W illio Clark; a laughable sketch, “Laying a Trap,” by Masters Crosbie Misses Senior, Wilkinson, Oiliver, Small, Walthers, and Glen brought the programme to a conclusion. Great credit is due to Mrs Clark for the brilliant performances given bv her pupils, also to Mr Clark. The proceeds of the concert amounted to £ll 18s. Supper and a dance followed. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr T. P. Dyer to Mr Clark to which Mr Clark responded. He said it was owing to Mr J. Crosbie, of Lumsden, supplying the conveyance free that they were able to get to Mossburn to hold a concert. School. —On Friday, 22nd inst. the Mossburn School held its annual break-up and picnic in glorious weather. Mr Healey, chairman of the School Committee, presented the prizes as follows:—Standard V, Harold Dore 1, Sheila M’Kay 2; Standard IV —Cecil Dore 1, Joseph Beer 2; Standard HI —Thomas Beer 1, John Ford 2; Standard II —Thomas Plato 1, Jean Beer 2; Standard I—Charles Reid 1, Elizabeth Beer 2. Some of the parents were present. The picnic and races were held in the schoolground. Sports. —On Christmas Day the annual sports were held in Mr Dore’s paddock, and a great crowd attended to witness the events, which were eagerly contested. The proceeds are to go to help returned soldiers of the district. The afternoon tea was presided over by the ladies of the Rod Cross Society, and they made over £4. A dance was held in the hall in the evening, the young people thoroughly enjoying themselves, and finished up a very successful Christmas.
