"My Advocacy of tho Gothenburg Principle, _ or State Control of the Liquor Traffic" is the title of a pamphlet published by the llev. James Milne, M.A., now stationed at Thames, but formerly of Oamaru. In this, Mr Milne tells the story of his efforts to excite interest in the system of State control in Australia, Now Zealand, and England. Tho opposition to the principle is of a somewhat singular character. The prohibitionists and those connected with or interested in the liquor traffic are both opposed to it, though for very different reasons, and the public is largely apathetic. By State control no one would have an interest in pushing tho sale of liquor, or to make the places whore it is retailed attractive. "Cheero ! Australians," being Christmas and New Year greetings to tho officers and men of the A.1.F., with some views of the Homeland 1 , is published by tho National Committee (Army and Navy Department) of the Young Men's Christian Association. The chief feature, perhaps, is the story of how Sergeant Jack, visiting his brother's station, assists his nephew in drilling and training, as a recreation, the station hands and shearers, with tho result that when the nephew leaves to go into camp for training he finds tho men of tho platoon so drilled insistent on going- with him for further training. Tho booklet is a bright little publication.
