MOVEMENTS OF OCEAN-GOING VESSELS.
The Turakina, from Dunedin, and the Niwaru, from Auckland., arrived at London on July 18.
The Rotorua, from London, arrived at Auckland on .Tidy 21. The Rimutaka and Walton Hall sailed form London, for L-yttelton. on July 20. The Ruahine sailed from Wellington, for London, on July 24.
COMMONWEALTH MERCHANT SHIPPING.
The following are the names, tonnago, and dates of launching of the 14 steamera purchased by Mr W. M. Hughes for the Australian wheat trade : —Strathendrick, 4379 tons, ' 1907; Strathlevon, 4396 tons, 1907; Strathairly, 4326 tons, 1905; Strathord, 4417 tons, 1906; Strathiee, 4409 tons, 1907; Strathsoev, 4432 tons, 1S07; Strathgarry, 4398 tons. 1907; Strathbeg, 4338 tons, 1909: Strathesk, 4336 tons, 1909: Ardgorm. 5131 tons, 1913; Ardanmhor, 4454 tons, 1907: Vermont, 4271 tons, 1900; Daltonhall. 3534 tons, 1899; Kirkswald, 4021 tons, 1912. Tho total tonnage is 65,245. Tho amount of tho purchase money has not boon disclosed, but it is known that the Commonwealth Bank has already paid what is described as " a huge cheque." The steamers were bought on behalf of Mr Hughes by Messrs Turner, Davidson, and Co., who have been appointed the commonwealth's . London brokers. Mr H. G. B. Larkin, the High Commissioner's shipping expert, has been appointed general manager of the new line.
