TEACHERS ENLISTING.
The following teachers in the service of the Otago Education Board intimated to the board on the 21st that they had been accepted for military service:—Mr 11. G. B. M'Donald, assistant, Kensington; Mr R. Allan, assistant, Anderson Bay; Mr Win. Crawford, relieving solo teacher. Otakou; Mr H. MTntyre, head teacher. Matakanui; and Mr A. Milne, Training College. Where necessary leave of absence was granted. WEIJ.INGTON, June 25. In replying to a deputation yesterday the Minister of Education said that to enable him to decide as to the expediencey or otherwise of limiting the enlistment of teachers, the Education Boards were being asked to state their experience in finding suitable persons to act as permanent or relieving teachers. He said that out of 4346 teachers there were now only about 237 single men, and many of those were under 21." Whilst clerks, mechanics, and even professional men and experts could to a considerable orient l>e replaced trom otlier sources, there was practically only one sourco of supply of teachers, and that was already seriously depleted.
