FARMERS' UNION.
At a meeting of the Waikaka Valley branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union in regard to a circular received from the
executive referring to cropping anil labour, Mr A. J. Nichol said it was a great loss to the country that so many farmers and farm workers were drifting to the towns. _ Parliament had adopted a form of conscription to provide enough men to fight in the field, and he thought it would be necessary to have some sort of organisation to compel men to do the necessary work in the country to providing food and clothing. It would bo the duty of the Government to see that men were not spending their time foolishly and uselessly. It was decided to hold the matter over until next meeting of the union.
