DUNEDIN POLICE COURT.

Monday. June 26. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, 3.M.) Adulterated Milk.—Stephen Bradbury ■was charged that, on March 14. at Green Island, ho sold to William Armour (an official of the Public Health Department) adulterated milk without fully informing tho purchaser at the time of the nature of the adulteration.—Sub-inspector Broberg stated that samples of milk had been purchased from the defendant by two Government inspectors, and had been submitted to tho Government analyst. An analysis showed that the milk contained 3.P per cent, of fafc and 8.02 per cent, of solids ether than fat. The sample was below tho standard required in solids other than milk fni—a result which would be produced by she addition of 5.7 per cent, of water to i :r.ilfc already of tho lowest quality and of 8.5 per cent, to a milk of average q :.:,'. -The defendant, for whom Mr F. I) nn ap-

pcarcd, stated that ho had, not had his milk tested separately from the sample sold to the inspectors, as he was satisfied that ifc was all right. He admitted thai tie had been previously convicted for a similar offence. Ho attributed a falling off in tho quality of the milk to the cows going on to soft food.—The Magistrate said that one satisfactory feature was that the percentage of butter fat was over the recognised standard. It was important that the standard of food should be fully complied with. Tho defendant would be fined £5, with costs (10s 6J).
