Leo ana Miss Grace Stevenson; pianoiorte duet, Misses Melville ; bagpipe selection, Mr W. isl'A'herson; songs —.Bars Barty, Messrs W. Stevenson, Barron, Bakers, Lea, PengJase, Romans, M'Pherson, and A. bihuth. At the conclusion of the concert programme Mr Romans said they had met to say good-Lye and wish good luok to their departing townsman, Mr Forbes, who had resided in the district for about 14 years, and during that time had earned tne respect and esteem of ail who had been associated with him. Mr Romans mentioned that as Mr Forbes was a married man ho was making a much greater sacrifice than the single men who had already enlisted. The speaker then presented Mr Forbes with a wristlet watch. Cheers were given for the recipient and Mrs Forbes, all present joining in singing "For they are jolly good fenows." Alter Mr W. Reid (chairman of the Lake County Council) and Mr A. G. Lea had made a few remarks Mr Forbes feelingly responded. Refreshments were then handed round, alter which a short dance was held. Mr Forbes left Arrowtown on Wednesday morning.

St. John's Church.—ihe annual meeting of members oi Ist. John's Anglican Church, Queenstown, was held lust week. The vicar, Rev. \V. Uphiil, presided. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £42 7s sd. The following- offioe-bearers were appointed : —Vicar's churchwarden, Mr A. Mayne; people's churchwarden, Mr L. liotop; parish vestry—Messrs Mayne, Hotop, Thompson, Warren, and Graham; local committee— Meserft Thompson Warren, Willoox, Lyle, Tallentare, Graham, M'Dowall, Hoddinott, and Mesdames Mayne, M'JJowail, and Miss Culling; nominators, Messrs Mayne and Xalientire; auditor, Mr A. li. Crawshaw; treasurer, Mr 0. E. Graham. Queenstown Debating and .Social Club.— The annual meeting was held last week, the Rev. G. H. Gibb presiding over a fair attendance. The balance sheet showed a debit balance oi 3s. The'-following officebearers were elected :—President, Rev. G. H. Gibb (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs A. J. Thompson and F. Hoddinott; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. J. M'Neill; committee —Messrs W. D. Warren and A. Simson, Mrs Fix, and Miss D. Warren. The membership ice was fixed at 2s for gentlemen and Is for ladies.

Personal. —At tho meeting of the Lake County Council held at Queenstown on Wednesday last, the Chairman "(Cr. W. Reid) referred to the loss the district had sustained by ten death of Mr Alex. M'Caitglmn, Garston. The deceased gentleman had been a member of the council for many years, arid the following motion, proposed by the Chairman, was carried in silence, the members standing j—" That this council extends its deepest sympathy to Mrs M'Caughan and family in "their recent sad bereavement."
